Seattle’s not the rainiest city in America. We’ll let Rochester, New York hold onto that claim to fame. That being said, we see our fair share of drizzly skies here in the Pacific Northwest. But I don’t believe in letting a few raindrops keep me down (or inside). So with a stylish raincoat, I’m ready for year-round adventuring.
In addition to my obsession with travel, I’m also passionate about supporting local businesses. Which is why I’m thrilled to be showing off FELLER, a collection of women’s outerwear that combines function and fashion.
Locally Designed Stylish Women’s Raincoats
An architectural school dropout, Wendy Feller began designing clothes in 1986. Born and raised in New York City, her first collection “Wendy Feller Knitwear,” earned her prestige throughout the fashion world. In fact, her sweaters were sold in over 500 boutiques and high-end department stores. Barneys New York, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue for instance..
However, when Wendy came to Seattle she discovered it wasn’t elegant knits ladies needed. It was women’s rain jackets, specifically ones that offered protection without shouting “rain jacket”!
Wendy, like many of us Seattle gals, didn’t want to choose between looking like we were ready for a backpacking adventure and staying dry. She wanted to be protected and look stylish doing it. So her Seattle designed outerwear collection is fashionable enough to explore the city by day or night.
And as if supporting a Seattle based business isn’t enough to make you feel good, 1% of every purchase is automatically directed to the Humane Society of Seattle.
Stylish Women’s Raincoats Constructed with ‘Rain’ in Mind
The FELLER collection doesn’t rely on 20th century Gore-Tex science. It delivers elegance, by using old-school techniques and modern designs. Moreover, pieces are constructed out of waxed cotton, a weather-resistant approach developed by sailors in the 15th century.
Originally, sailors coated their sails in linseed oil, creating a dryer and faster sail. Unfortunately, linseed oil also caused the fabric to become stiff and yellow. Eventually, the oil was replaced with paraffin wax, which offers a similar protective coat while remaining pliable and breathable.
It is this technique that Wendy utilizes in her FELLER women’s outdoor wear collection. So this allows her to showcase natural cotton in beautiful patterns.
Raincoat-Worthy Pacific Northwest Travel Itineraries
It doesn’t take long to get to Victoria, BC when you travel by seaplane. This means there’s plenty of time to explore the Butchart gardens, enjoy waffles and wander the city!
Just two hours west of Seattle, this woodsy spa offers a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city. From beach-combing and swimming for the kids to spa dates and farm-to-table dinners, it’s a sweet little spot to relax while getting your outdoor fix.
The best places to play and stay with your kids and your fur baby include trips to parks, outdoor markets, and plenty of tasty bites.
